RSG’ll Consolidate On Achievements This Year – Amaechi

Rivers State Governor, Rt. Hon Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi says the focus of his administration in 2010, would be the consolidation of the modest achievement recorded in about two years of his administration.

Governor Amaechi who disclosed this in his New Year broadcast to the people of the  state said the year 2009 was very memorable to the state but  2010 would be better.

The state chief executive noted that year 2009 witnessed global economic recession, intense security challenges in the Niger Delta region and significant reduction of federal allocation to the state due to reduced earnings from oil.

He said that despite these and other institutional challenges, Rivers State recorded modest successes in some key areas and lauded the cooperation of the legislative and judicial arms toward the gains.

He explained that the state government deliberate policy to tackle the unacceptable state of decay in the educational sector, security, health and road transport infrastructure had achieved tremendous progress through the courageous injection of huge capital investment to obtain the desired result.

The state chief executive said the year 2010, would witness the completion of some on-going project as many have reached various levels of completion, emphasizing that the broken foundations of the state have been sufficiently strengthened to allow for aggressive rebuilding of the state.

The governor observed that with the modest achievement in two years, the focus for 2010 would shift to the consolidation.

Governor Amaechi opined that his government would continued to be at the forefront of the advocacy for the restoration of true spirit of fiscal federalism as a constitutional principle in the on-going attempt to amend the constitution of the country.

The governor said the New Year would also witness commitment in the exploration of the economic advantages of modern agriculture which offers the brightest hope for rapid economic transformation while the already improved security situation in the state would be strengthened through the instrumentality of the various security agencies.

Accordingly he said, the state government had pledged that the 2010 budget would work for the restoration of the state to her former status as the best investment destination in Nigeria by ensuring effective governance and service delivery.

The state chief executive commended the people of Rivers State for their support and constructive criticisms of the government in 2009, which helped to shape their performance and solicited for similar cooperation in 2010.
