Leader Ewelie, popularly called “grand master,” said in a release made available to Tidesports in Port Harcourt that the state’s karate team is focused on winning gold medals in the forth-coming national sports festival tagged “Garden City Games, to be hosted by the state later this year.

Grand master continued that the state’s team has resumed serious training from yesterday in preparation for the state karate championship in February and a national championship between March and April.

He called on karate instructors in the 23 local government areas to ensure that they attend the February championship, saying that there will also be technical referee course and workshop during the championship.

The state karate coach noted the need to give martial arts an opportunity to make the state proud, adding, “if martial arts would be given enough support like football at the grassroots level, the state will not regret it.”
