Police Avert Ogoni Day Protest …As Irate Youths Match Against Ledum Mitee MOSOP Leadership

The crisis rocking the Movement for the Survival of Ogoni People (MOSOP) came to the fore Monday, when youths loyal to the factional leader of the movement, Mr Goodluck Diigbo attempted to scuttle the 2010 Ogoni day celebration.

Trouble started at about 11.30am when about 500 youths stormed the Birabi Memorial Grammar School (BMGS) field protesting the continuous claim by Mr Ledum Mitee to the presidency of the Movement.

They were however prevented from wrecking havoc on the pitch by security operatives who succeeded in chasing them out of the arena.

Addressing newsmen immediately in the area the president of the National Youth Council of Ogoni People (NYCOP), Mr Kpor Ebenezer said that, Mr Ledum Mitee cannot address the Ogoni people since he is not the president of MOSOP.

HE claimed that Mr Mitee who has been president for fourteen years now, must give way to Goodluck Diigbo.

The deputy commissioner of police, Rivers State, Mr Habila Joshak who reacted to the protest immediately warned that security agencies would not hesitate to arrest anyone who took the law into his hands.

Mr Joshak urged them to adopt peaceful means towards resolving their problems as the police would deal with anyone caught formenting trouble.
