The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has condemned former President Olusegun Obasanjo on comments credited to him over President Yar’Adua’s ill health, at the 7th Trust Annual lecture.
In a statement, PDP National Publicity Secretary, Prof Rufa’l Ahmed Alkali noted that the  remarks made by the party’s Board of Trustees (BOT) chairman were regrettable as they were capable of causing disharmony and disaffection in the country.
According to the PDP , the comments were ‘ill-timed and in bad taste as they had not in any way added value to the dominant issue of the day.
The party averred that as a reverred statesman and indeed, a major and undisputed beneficiary of democracy’, the expectation from Obasanjo, even in the face of provocation should have been  measured and calm demeanor, adding that the party finds it difficult to understand what his motives were, and what he sought to achieve by his comments.
However, the party said that in consistency with its tradition within the PDP to accord respect to our leaders both past and present, the party shall continue to give General Obasanjo his due respects at all times.
The statement, however, added that the party distances itself from Obasanjo’s statements and also wishes to advise all leaders to weigh their opinions before they utter them in order not to undermine our democratic gains and expose our country to ridicule.
