The Rivers State chapter of the National Union of Local Government Employees (NULGE), has threatened to down tools over the recent posting of officers on grade 16 and 17 as clerk of local government council.

The Local Government Service Commission had on January 5, announced the posting of Grade Level 16 officer, as clerks of Local Government Legislative Assemblies while those on levels 12 to 15 were appointed as Acting Head of Local Government Administration.

In a Press briefing in Port Harcourt the state President of Nulge, Comrade Franklin Ajinwo said that members of the union would protest by shunning their duty posts if the postings are not reversed because, according to him, officers on grade levels 16 and 17 cannot be reduced to clerks.

“Bureaucracy is all about laid down rules. There are patterns of doing things. There are rules on how you progress in the service from grade level to grade level.

“We have what we called job specification clearly provided by the approved scheme of service” he said.

He said that the union had already protested the commission action.
