One of the chairmanship candidates for the forthcoming Nigeria Premier League Board (NPL) elections, Mr. Victor Baribote has expressed sadness over the poor attendance of spectators in Nigeria’s premier league matches.

Baribote made his feelings known in an exclusive interview with Tidesports over the weekend in Port Harcourt, saying that if voted into power, his first assignment would be to encourage fans and lovers of football to attend matches.

According to him, “there is no glamour in football if there are no spectators.”

“This is not how Nigerian league matches used to be. Before now, we used to have full capacity in our match venues. That is why the first thing in my agenda is to ensure that fans come to the field to watch matches”, he said.

The chairmanship aspirant continued that another thing in his agenda is to give Nigerian football a facelift in all facets.

“I keep on saying that if  I’m the chairman, there will be a generational change in our football system, because I will bring fresh ideas that will revitalise the NPL.

“But I will not disclose everything because when you are going to war it is not advisable to expose all your arsenals,” he said.
