NGO Canvasses Assistance For Poor Students
The Centre for Workforce Development, a Non-Governmental Organisation (NGO) has appealed to the Delta State Government to offer scholarship to indigent graduates to study abroad.
The General Manager of the centre, Prof Linus Ogene, who made the call in an interview with newsmen at Asaba said that the NGO was concerned about human capital development and job creation.
He said that the centre provided opportunity for rich and indigent young people to be trained for three months.
“The poor people can benefit from our had programmes in many ways. We have international scholarship scheme that allows young people who are poor to come in here for three months”, he declared.
Prof. Ogene expressed hope that various state governments would sponsor indigent students to study over-seas.
He specifically charged Delta State government to collaborate with the NGO and fund the three month course for its people while the centre takes it up from there to get them scholarships abroad.
According to him, the centre had maintained good relationship with Delta State government on human capital development right from the administration of James Ibori.
He explained that in less than two weeks, 100 young people from Delta State were expected to go to United States of America on scholarship based on the work of the centre.
