Movie Stars re-enact Woman Of Calabar

Captain Elechi Amadi’s Soap Opera, Woman of Calabar brings to the fore, the erroneous misconceptions about certain races and peoples in the post-colonial Nigeria. With contemporary events, the 13 episode soap opera recaptures the past, when people were not allowed to fall in love let alone marry someone from Efik background as they were considered to be witches.

The opera lampoons the anachronistic culture via the love story of Emem and Adia. Emem’s mum, the over protective, Debo Arika would not have her only son get married to a Calabar woman.

Mrs Akrika’s anxiety were connected with the age long perception which assigned witchcraft and fetishism to average Calabar woman.

Attempt made to separate the two lovebirds, Emem and Adia set the stage for the final showdown between the Calabar woman and her enstranged, prospective mother-in-law. Produced by Victoria Emanmouzo Ajayi and directed by Jide Alli, the Soap opera parades popular artisters like Ngozi Nwosu, Tina Mba, Toyin Osinaike and Omobogogo Ombo, Egechi Elechi Amadi and Ify Omalicha among others. Kamouzo productions, a Lagos based launching itself into Nigeria’s entertainment scene with the work of which will be shown on leading T.V. stations across the country within the first quarter of this year.
