Gov Tasks Communities On Education

Rivers State Governor, Rt. Hon. Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi, wants the people of Okwan-Aja Cluster Communities in Andoni Local Government Area of the State to prioritise the education of their children to return to their status quo in academics. 

 Governor Amaechi while addressing the people of Okwan-Aja district at Ikuru Town during his meet-the-people tour of Andoni LGA, recently, said his administration was interested in providing qualitative education to the people of the area to capture back what they used to be in the past.

 The Governor, accompanied by his deputy, Engr. Tele Ikuru and wife, Mina, as well as members of the State Executive Council including the Commissioner for Information, Mrs. Ibim Semenitari and the National Organizing Secretary of the PDP, Prince Uche Secondus, recalled that the Andonis were among the first to produce great educationists in the State.

 Wondering why they neglected what they were known for and allowed their children to take to criminal activities, he urged them to encourage their children and youths to go to school as that was the only way they would have comparative advantage over others in the scheme of things of the State.

 “We are interested in training and giving your children adequate education to enable you capture back what you used to have. Education is the greatest legacy you can bequeath to your children and not to excavate oil pipes,” Governor Amaechi declared.

 The State Chief Executive, told the people to be appreciative of the fact that they are well represented in the present administration, having the Deputy Governor, two commissioners and the National Organising Secretary of the ruling party, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) coming from the area.   According to him, the State Government would revive the water project in the area to check the outbreak of water borne diseases, which he said had claimed several lives in the riverine areas, pointing out that what the government expected from them was peace, unity and support as a lot had been done for them.

 Governor Amaechi advised them not to destroy the forests around them because the wild lives therein were sources of revenue, adding that something would be done urgently for the completion of the ongoing Ogoni-Andoni-Opobo Unity Road and bridges which had reached advanced stage.

 The Okwan-Aja Cluster Communities in an address presented by Chief Metong Urombo told the Governor that they were in dire need of social and economic infrastructure as well as human resources, and adequate number of teachers in their schools including the siting of industries in the area. 

 Thanking the Governor for the projects going on and scholarships being enjoyed by some youths from the area, Chief Urombo pledged the people’s continued loyalty and support to the present administration of the State, while appreciating the appointment of their sons into positions of authority.
