The   Commissioner for    Information and Communication in Rivers state,  Mrs. Ibim Semenitari, has rewarded staff of the circulation unit of Rivers State Newspaper Corporation, publishers of The Tide Group of Newspapers, for their hard work.

Presenting a cash gift of five thousand naira to each of the 12 staff of the unit, the commissioner said that she was moved to pity to make the promise when she paid a visit to the corporation and discovered that the circulation unit had no distribution van, a situation which makes staff of the unit to carry the daily prints on their heads to distribute to the nooks and crannies of the state.

Mrs. Semenitari who was represented by the Director, Press Affairs in the ministry, Mr. Dike Onyije said that she had to redeem her pledge based on the situation on the ground and was moved to  pity to do so.

“My commissioner has mandated me to redeem the pledge to assist you in this department to ginger you to harder work for the state. As stakeholders, we owe ourselves the duty to put in our best and meet the current development effort that the governor of the state aspires for.

Mrs. Semenitari said that the circulation unit of any publishing house serves as the eye of the newspaper house, stressing that if the staff are motivated they would perform beyond expectation. “What we have done is to tell you that the supervising ministry is interested in your activities and deserves higher productivity to ensure that government programmes are properly projected”, she said.

In his response, the representative of the Director, Business Development in the Rivers State Newspaper Corporation, Mr. Vincent Ochonma, Mr. Osita Okike thanked the commissioner for her love for the corporation, noting that workers in the department would show more zeal to work, Mr. Okike equally thanked the General Manager of the corporation, Mr. Celestine Ogolo for creating the enabling environment for the entire staff of the corporation to put in their best even when the corporation had lean resources to produce the paper.

It will be recalled that the commissioner paid a working visit to the corporation penultimate Friday to assess the level of production and circulation process in the corporation.

In assessing the situation, the commissioner had identified the circulation department as an emergency area that needed urgent attention, especially with the provision of a Rotary machine to facilitate early production of the paper.
