Bayelsa Govt Cautions Principals On WAEC, NECO

Bayelsa State Government has directed the formation of Parents/Teachers Association (PTA) in all public secondary schools in the state.

The government has also banned registration of external candidates for the West African Examination Council (WAEC) and National Examination Council (NECO) by principals.

Consequently, the hope of thousands of students who had hoped to use this year’s WAEC and NECO to complete their results for admission into higher institutions have been dashed.

The Commissioner of Education, Mrs. Josephine Ezonbodor, who handed down the decision of the state government to heads of secondary schools during a meeting said that the attitude of external candidates have been identified cause for the cancellation of results of bonafile internal candidates of most schools.

Mrs. Ezonbodor said, to make the order effective, principals should immediately enlist the support of their host communities by inaugurating Parents/Teachers Associations (PTA).

The commissioner warned against collection of fees of any kind from the students irrespective of their state of origin as government had decided to pay the fees.

According to the commissioner, PTAs should only carry out projects after it has been approved by the ministry, saying that those who flout the order will face penalties.

In her speech, the permanent secretary incharge of the ministry, Dr. Victoria Tekenah advised principals to always give their best in the service to the state.

She said this because necessary became of enormous resources the state government is investing in the sector, saying that the only way to show gratitude is to make their products excel in all academic activities.
