69-Year-Old Woman Commits Suicide

A 69-year old woman had on New Year eve committed suicide at Rumuokurushi in Obio/Akpor local government of Rivers State.

The woman whose name was given as Mrs Glory Brown hailed from Ikuru Town in Adoni local government.

Small Talk learnt that on the December 31, 2009, her children and other members of the family had gone to the annual night watch to welcome the new year.

Small Talk further gathered that on the fateful day, when the woman was left alone at home, she went into one of the rooms and committed suicide by handing her self with a rope.

Some members of the family including her son Stanley Brown, shuddered at the development saying they never knew Sisi as she is popularly called could behave like that due to the level of her friendliness with every member of the family.

Mr Brown said his mother never had any form of mental ailment, but admitted that she had internal heat” some time ago which she was cured of with the help some pastors.

He pointed out that the woman suddenly developed the habit of staging alone before she finally committed suicide on the New Year Eve.

Earlier, the deceased’s family have been mandated to buy some “funny” items in order to appease the gods of the land, suicide is viewed as a taboo in the area.

The rituals is to be done before her burial a top man among the Owhor holders has said.
