2010 Nations Cup CAF Snubs Nigerian Referees Again
The Confederation of African Football (CAF) continued the tradition of overlooking Nigerian referees for major tournaments by failing to list a single one as centre referee for this month’s Africa Cup of Nations in Angola.
Only one Nigerian was listed, as an assistant referee, while there were three South Africans in total; two referees and one assistant referee.
Three officials were picked from Asia; Alghamdi Khalil Ibrahim from Saudi Arabia as centre referee, his compatriot Al Ghamdi Mohammed and Iran’s Hassan Kamranifar as assistant referees.
The development will come as a further black eye for Nigerian referees, who continue to suffer criticism at home for their handling of matches in the domestic Premier League.
