2009 Not Fair For Civil Savants In Rivers – Civil Servants Boss
The Chairman, Nigeria Civil Service Union (NCSU), Comrade Opu-Iyibo Lily West has identified the Civil Servant as the least attended to in 2009 in Rivers State.
Lily West, who stated this in an exclusive interview with The Tide said, one of the key challenges Civil Servant faced in 2009 was the issue of E-payment, which, he stated, brought Untold hardship to many Civil Servants and their families.
He said that although the present administration under Governor Rotimi Amaechi, had recorded successes in other areas, the problems of civil servants in the state did not seem to be the priority of the government.
The Civil Servant boss stated certain key areas he considered to be very important as instances where the government has not treated civil servant well in the state.
According to him, such areas in addition to the E-payment issue include the training of trainer’s workshop for civil servants, and general civil servants welfare.
While commending the Head of Service, Mrs Esther Anucha for sending some civil servants on training at Bori Polytechnic for six months, a development which he said enhanced the promotion of those trained noted that such training should be extended to all ministries and parastatals in the civil services and should be made regular.
On the rumoured expected Christmas bonus for 2009 which many civil servants in the state have complained about, he said “it is not a right.
“However, when something is done regularly, it becomes a tradition, and soon it is seen as a right by those enjoying it.
“If the Governor decides to give Christmas bonus, it is because he wants to, not because he must give it, but we are appealing that since we are now used to it, he should please let us enjoy it.”
Areas in which the civil servant boss said the state government has done well including, the health sector, education, road and construction.
