‘Nigeria To Celebrate 50 Years In Grand Style’
The 50th year anniversary of Nigeria’s attainment of political independence and nationhood, which comes up on October 1, this year would be celebrated in grand style.
Indication to this effect was given Thursday in Abuja, by the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Senator Muhammad Adamu Aliero, during a courtesy call on him in his office by the Charge D’Affaires of the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea, Mr Han Man Hyok.
Senator Aliero said that 50 years in the life of a nation is worth celebrating especially, with the unprecedented socio-economic development witnessed during these years.
“We in the FCT administration during these years, have successfully built a brand new Federal Capital City from the scratch to a world class standard for Nigeria which has remained a rallying point for all Nigerians irrespective of our ethnic, political or religious affiliations”, he emphasised.
Senator Aliero further disclosed that the federal government had planned the building of the Abuja Cultural Centre and Millennium Towers, which is now under construction at the Central Business District to commemorate the country’s 50th year anniversary.
The minister called on the government of the Democratic Peoples Republic of Korea to partner with the government of Nigeria to complete the multi-billion-naira edifice for the mutual benefits of the two nations.
He revealed that all the 36 states of the federation and the Federal Capital Territory would have spaces earmarked to showcase the richness of their Apeculiar culture.
Senator Aliero noted that the federal government would do everything possible to complete the project within two years, saying that the project is very important to Abuja, being the melting pot for all Nigerians.
The minister welcomed the cultural and educational collaboration existing between the two countries and promised that the FCT administration will send a delegation to Democratic People’s Republic of Korea to fine-tune and concretise areas of common interest.
He specifically applauded the Koreans for training FCT students in callisthenic, which is now being displayed during international events in Abuja.
Senator Aliero urged all foreign missions in Nigeria who are yet to develop their property in Abuja to do so and commended the Koreans for being one of the first to develop theirs.
Speaking earlier, the Charge D’ Affaires of the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea, Mr Han Man Hyok, reiterated the willingness of his country to partner with Nigeria on culture and education.
He assured that his country is ready to assist FCT students to acquire new techniques of callisthenic, to enable them advance in the art thereby adding colour to the forthcoming 50th Year Independence anniversary celebration of Nigeria.
