WAGI Shut Over Obligation To Workers

The Rivers State Government has directed that the premises of the West African Glass Industry (WAGI) Trans Amadi be sealed.

The directive followed the failure of the management of the company to meet its obligations to the workers.

Speaking in an interview with newsmen shortly after inspection of the company’s premises, the commissioner for commerce and industry, Prince Ogbonna Nwuke said that government is poised to ensuring the return of sanity in the running of the company.

Prince Nwuke said that government decided to support its companies to boost the economy as well as create employment opportunities for youths, stressing that the agreement between the core investors and the state government does not gives room for the citizens to be put at a disadvantaged position.

Meanwhile, the Rivers State Government has pledged to partner with the organised private sector to boost the economy of the state.

The commissioner for Commerce and Industry, Prince Ogbonna Nwuke who said this during the Rivers day celebration of the on-going fifth Port Harcourt International Trade Fair also described commerce and industry as the key to economic development of the state.

The commissioner described the on-going Trade fair as the best and commended the Port Harcourt Chamber of Commerce, Industry, Mines and Agriculture (PHCCIMA) for the feat.

Also speaking, the PHCCIMA President, Engr Vincent Furo said this year’s fair has seen the introduction of innovations such as, talent hunts programme while a pavilion for small scale industries was also introduced.
