The Pro-Chancellor further stated that 459 academic staff were retained by the council saying “with a projection of 61 additional academic staff to be employed thereby bringing the number of academic staff in the Humanities to 235, 285 in the Sciences while 733 non-teaching staff were retained.
The step taken by the council became necessary, according to him, because of the prevailing circumstances in the institution, saying that the over-bloated work force of the institution had grossly contravened the requirements of the National University Commission (NUC) in staff recruitment, assuring that the “right-sizing exercise would put things in proper shape.
He stated further that the staff affected by the exercise would be given three months salary in lieu of the termination of their appointments.
