Unemployment: KHALGA Engages 150 Youths

The Chairman of Khana Local Government Council, Chief Bariledum Nwidam says he has engaged a total of one hundred and fifty youths in meaningful ventures.

Chief Nwidam who disclosed this while briefing newsmen Tuesday on his achievement so far said, the initiative was part of efforts to reduce unemployment in the local government area.

The council boss further reveals that payment of outstanding salary arrears of staff have been made as well as building of a six classroom block with a borehole at Zaakpor community, eight classroom block at Bane and another six classroom block at Opuako in order to boost learning.

On health the chairman disclosed the council has reconstructed Uegwere Bo-ue health centre, installed borehole, provided free medical care and eye glasses for the elderly as well as built a befitting office for the police Area Command in Bori in addition to the provision of one Toyota Hilux to assist in combating crime.

In another development the chairman of Ahoada East Local Government Council of Rivers State, High Chief Cassidy Ikegbidi has restated government’s intention to ban burial ceremonies during Christmas from 24 December 2009 to 7th January, 2010.

High Chief Ikegbidi who stated this while briefing newsmen said that the move was necessitated by social vices that characterised burial ceremonies, including carrying of guns, machetes and drinking of all sorts of alcohol thus threatening peace.

He said that Christmas and New Year should be seen as a period for celebration of merriment and sober reflection, adding that burial ceremonies should be seen as sacred and payment of last respect to the dead.
