Sports Commissioner Debunks Poor Funding Allegation
Against the backdrop that the National Sports Festival (NSF) tagged “Garden City Games 2010” billed to hold in Rivers State, may not be successful due to inadequate funding of the sub-committee of the Local Organizing Committee (LOC), the Commissioner for Sports in the state Hon. Boma Iyaya said that it is not true.
Speaking with sports journalists at the Liberation Stadium Port Harcourt over the weekend shortly, after Sharks FC defeat of 3SC, he said the LOC have started working and contracts have been awarded to build facilities towards a befitting and successful sports festival.
Hon Iyaye explained that the sub-committees have submitted their proposals and Budget and they are following due process for transparency and proper accountability.
“The sub-committee have submitted their budgets and they are all passing through due process which will enable us know the actual figure to be used for the festival, in fact, for now the sub-committees don’t have anything to do with finance”, he said.
He expressed confidence that the state could host one of the best sports festivals in the history of NSF).
“If you have been following the activities of LOC you will know that we have gone far in terms of execution of contract to build facilities”, he stated.
