RSG To Expand Rivers Orphanages
The Rivers State Government is to expand the Port Harcourt Children Orphanage Homes in 2011 to enable it accommodate growing population of abandoned children in the state.
Wife of Rivers State Governor Judith Amaechi stated this Sunday when she visited the Port Harcourt Children home.
Mrs. Amaechi who donated recreational materials to children also gave out gift items to the children.
The governor’s wife while unveiling the recreational facilities with the children said the state government had pledged its determination to provide quality social services to charity homes adding that expansion of the children homes will begin in 2011 to accommodate the growing population of children. “I want to say that these children are dear to our heart and am aware that over 60 children are here, I want to assure you that the state government wants to provide a facelift through expansion of the structure to accommodate the children”.
Judith Amaechi who was accompanied to the orphanage by the founder of ION Film International Hossein Famani and Foreign Journalists said adequate welfare must be provided for the children especially in the area of the quality health care services.
She pledged to enroll some of the children in the ESI Nursery School to enable them access early education. “These children are our heritage and must be given adequate attention, some of the children who are of school enrolment age in the ESI nursery school programme will be registered to begin early and foundation education”.
The Director of Child Welfare, Ministry of Social Rehabilitation, Mrs. Soule Duku-Gin thanked the governor’s wife for her good gesture and pledges the Ministry’s effort to redouble its commitment to the welfare of the children.
In another development, the governor’s wife has advocated the inclusion of early child education in the various states government budgets.
She said the states’ budgets should accommodate the foundational education to enable the children have access to quality education.
Mrs Amaechi said committing reasonable percentage of the entire budget to the early child education will enable the society to place the children on the path of moral rectitude and human capacity development of the state.
