Rivers State Governor, Rt. Hon Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi has scored the state Road Maintenance Agency low, saying the outfit had not lived up to expectation and had not justified the huge amount voted for it.

Governor Amaechi who made the remarks yesterday while reacting to questions at an interactive session with newsmen at Government House, Port Harcourt, said the agency would be reviewed for greater productivity in a satisfactory manner.

The governor, however, said the state government’s operation zero pothole campaign has achieved a lot within the period and advised those whose areas were not covered in the campaign to report to the Ministry of Works for urgent attention.

On the issue of performance of chairmen of local government councils, the governor said it was frustrating his effort at grassroot development and advised the electorate to play their role by voting for creditable candidates in subsequent elections, emphasizing that the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the state may consider their performances as a prerequisite for running for a second term.

The State chief Executive said he supports any effort on internal democracy in the Peoples Democratic Party because if public officers know that they would come to the people to solicit for votes, they would perform their duties well.

About the invasion of the University of Port Harcourt community by the ex-militants, Governor Amaechi said he has made formal complaint to the Federal Government for the relocation of the ex-militants camp, emphasizing that any crime committed by anybody would attract punishment since the period of amnesty was over.

He explained that the state government would continue to fight criminal activities, assuring that although military personnel were billed for withdrawal from the streets of Port Harcourt following the restoration of relative peace in the area, security operatives would monitor the situation before their final withdrawal.
