RSG Approves N15bn Contract For Sports Complex

Rivers State Governor, Rt. Hon Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi has approved the award of N15 billion contract, for the building of a modern Garden City Sports complex to ensure a successful 17th National Sports festival tagged “2010 Garden City Games” billed to hold in the state.

The approval was made known in a release by the commissioner for sport, for sports, Hon Boma Iyaye and made available to Tidpesports in Port Harcourt.

Iyaye said the sum awarded was built into the Greater Port Harcourt City Project and is expected to be completed by September 2010.

The commissioner noted that the project when completed will serve as the main hub for the festival in which over fourteen thousand sportsmen and officials will participate.

The sports boss said the gesture is “a huge step in directing our focus towards ensuring a successful sports festival in the state.”

He reiterated that by this time next year, the best national sports festival must have been concluded.

“We have no doubt that by this time next year, Rivers State Government must have concluded a good event Nigerians have never experienced before,” he said.

Iyaye further said the contracts were awarded to different contractors to facilitate speedy delivery.

The festival has tentatively been scheduled for November 2010.
