As part of effort to combat the spread of HIV/AIDS in the rural communities and consolidate the activities of civil society groups in the crusade against the disease, wife of the Rivers State Governor will on Monday, launch the Rivers State Chapter of the National Women Coalition Against AIDS, (NAWOCA).

NAWOCA,  which was launched last August is a brain child of the Nation’s First Lady Hajia Turai Yar’Adua, intended to involve  women in the crusade against the spread of HIV/AIDS.

Wife of Rivers State Governor, Judith Amaechi, in a statement and signed by her Media Assistant, Dike Bekwele, stated that the launch and inauguration of the NAWOCA in Rivers State is imperative due to lack of proper enlightenment campaign at rural communities.

Mrs Amaechi, who recalled how she embarked on a HIV/AIDS campaign in three rural local governments and was shocked to realize that some young people do not understand what HIV/AIDS meant, she vowed to launch NAWOCA in all communities in the state with a view to complementing government  effort in the crusade, adding that women are more vulnerable to the disease.

The launch billed for 10 am on Monday will also witness the inauguration of NAWOCA in the twenty three local government of the state.  The local government chapter at a later date will inaugurate the ward chapters.
