Model Schools: Amaechi Lauds SPDC Over Partnership

Rivers State Governor, Rt. Hon. Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi, has lauded Shell Petroleum Development Company (SPDC), for accepting to partner with the state government in the construction of its model secondary schools aimed at enhancing the quality of education in the state.
Governor Amaechi stated this Saturday, during the formal hand over of a parcel of land, survey plan and technical drawings of one of the model secondary schools sites to be built by SPDC under a partnership arrangement with the state government for Port Harcourt Local Government Area.
The governor, who thanked the management of SPDC for accepting to identify with the state and for demonstrating its social responsibility to the community, assured the company of the state government’s readiness to maintain the standard of the school for the benefit of the people of Rivers State.
Receiving the land and documents for commencement of work, the managing Director of Shell Petroleum Development Company (SPDC), Mr. Mutiu Sumonu, said his company decided to partner with the state government because of the visionary leadership of Governor Amaechi especially in the education sector.
Mr. Sumonu said the state government’s investment in the education sector would outlive the present generation, hence SPDC decided to identify with the vision to make it succeed, promising that his company would continue to keep watch over the school after construction to sustain the standard.
He expressed the hope that the Rivers State Government education programme would be a model in the country for others to emulate.
Highlight of the ceremony was the presentation of documents to the SPDC Managing Director by the governor.
