Late Amadi Ikwechegh: Abia Seeks Imo, Ebonyi Support

Abia State has accused both the Imo and Ebonyi state governments of showing apathy towards the burial of the late former governor of Old Imo State, Commodore Amadi Ikwechegh who will be buried on Friday, December 17, 2009, at his native home, Igbere in Bende local government area of Abia state.

  Apparently unhappy with the development, Abia state has expressed concern that Imo state, where the late Ikwechegh served last  was not showing any interest in the burial arrangement of the former military governor.

  Abia state said that for now only the state and the family of Ikwechegh were handling the burial plans as both Imo and Ebonyi states have refused to be part of the programme even when they were said to have been properly informed.

  The Burial Committee set up by the Abia State government told newsmen in  Umuahia Wednesday, that both the family of Ikwechegh and Governor Theodore Orji wrote to Imo and Ebonyi state governments when the burial date was agreed with the family as well as the Ohaneze Ndigbo and other South East states.

  According to the secretary of the committee, Mr. Ogbonnaya Ogwo, who briefed newsmen in company of other members, the family first wrote when the man died and the governor also wrote to the states when the burial date was fixed.
