LASU Crisis: Fashola Inaugurates Panel

The Governor of Lagos State, Babatunde Fashola has inaugurated a six-man visitation panel to investigate the crisis in the Lagos State University (LASU).

The panel which was inaugurated last week is headed by Justice Olaseinde Silva.

In the inauguration speech, the governor thanked the committee members for accepting to serve on the panel, saying it would provide an opportunity to keep the torch of the university alive and actualise the dream behind the foundation of the university.

According to the governor, the panel would serve as a mediation for all stakeholders in the school and commended the unions in the institution for accepting to resume work.

The panel is to review the students affairs policies and practices from the point of entry to graduation, including admission, welfare of students, maintenance of discipline, conduct of examinations, class attendance, marking of exam scripts and issuance of certificates.

Governor Fashola also said the panel is to examine the state of facilities and manpower in the school and proffer appropriate solutions and recommendations for government reaction.

While responding, Chairman of the visitation panel, Justice Silva, promised that the panel would do its best so that peace would return to the university.

However, he solicited for the co-operation of other stakeholders stressing that inspite the readiness of the panel members, it could not succeed without the understanding and co-operation of other stakeholders, in the institution.

Other members of the panel are Prof. Itse Sagay, Mrs. Victoria Ankra, Alhaja Lateefat Okunnu, Mrs Muri Okunola and Kaoli Olusanya.
