FG Set To Distribute Mosquito Nets Nationwide
In a bid to combat the menace of malaria in the country, the Federal Government is set to distribute 63 million insecticide treated Nets in the country.
The Minister for Health, Professor Babatunde Osortimehin disclosed this during the flagging off campaign of the long lasting insecticide treated nets universal coverage and the second round Maternal Neonatal Tetanus Elimination at Unyeada town in the Andoni Local Government Area.
The Minister who was represented by the Chief Medical Officer of the University of Port Harcourt Prof. O.C. Ojile said that malaria menace need a concerted effort to combat.
He also said that the government is giving serious attention to the programmes on malaria and tetanus because of its devastating effect on the economy of the nation.
Also speaking the Rivers State Commissioner for Health Dr. Sampson Parker said that tetanus vaccines will be administered on the people of the area.
Dr. Parker who was represented by Dr. Nimi Hart also thanked the State Governor Rt. Hon. Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi for choosing Andoni for the programme.
In her welcome address, the chairman of Andoni Local Government Area, Hon. Mrs Emilia Gilbert Nte said that the local government area has successfully achieved 15 percent coverage of the MNTE campaign while thirty five thousand UINS from the state government has been distributed to communities in the area.
Mrs Nte said that the council has embarked on several people oriented projects within the last six months.
The projects includes; the construction of Legislative Chambers in Ngo, reconstruction of mini health centre at Ajakajak and Isiodum, construction of rigid pavement at Asalakiri amongst others.
