FG Inaugurates 29-man Committee Over FG Inaugurates 29-man Committee Over Unpaid Salaries
The Federal Government has inaugurated a 29-man implementation monitoring committee on the agreement the Federal Government signed with Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), National Association of Academic Technologists (NAAT), Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities (SSANU) and NASU.
Minister of Education, Dr. Sam Egwu revealed that the unions in some of the universities were planning for another round of dispute with the government, following their inability to collect salaries for the months the Industrial Arbitration Panel (IAP) ordered the implementation of the no-work-no-pay policy.
Speaking with newsmen after inauguration of the implementation monitoring committee headed by the chairman committee of Pro-Chancellors of Federal Universities, Dr. Wale Babalakin, Egwu said it was the order of the IAP and that it was expected to be resolved between various universities and their governing councils.
But the ASUU President, Prof. Ukachukwu Awuzie who is also a member of the committee, said he had already petitioned the chairman of the committee, Dr. Babalekin and expressed hope that it would be one of the issues it would address.
He also warned that the agreement signed by the unions with the Federal Government was conditional and advised all parties to keep to the provisions of the agreement to ensure industrial harmony.
Meanwhile, the Federal Government last week asked the aggrieved members of the unions to resolve the issue of unpaid salaries following implementation of its no-work-no-pay policy during the striking period with various governing councils.
