ELGA Boss Commended For Winning Best Council Award

Following the best performing local government chairman award on the Eleme Local Government Chairman, Hon. Oji Ngofa, the people of the local government have started sending congratulatory messages to the recipient.

The award which was instituted by the House of Representatives Committee on States and Local Government Affairs in partnership with the Ministry of Local Government identified Eleme Local Government Council Chairman in Rivers State as the best in the state following the various people-oriented projects executed by him in one year.

Speaking to newsmen recently, the chairman of the Taskforce on Environmental Sanitation, Eleme Local Government Council, Elder Emmanuel Olaka commended Hon. Ngofa and said the award was not a surprise to the people based on what the chairman has been able to achieve in one year.

According to him, after the independent assessment carried out in Eleme to verify Ngofa’s performance, the Eleme Chairman emerged tops among the 23 local government chairmen in Rivers State.

Elder Olaka described Ngofa as a performer and a God sent leader who due to his hardwork and good leadership qualities have won several awards and honours from various professional organisations including the Rotary Club, and ABR leadership.

The Environmental Sanitation Task Force chairman listed some of the projects that gave Ngofa an edge ahead of other local government chairmen as the construction of Nyande Oji Awala Roads, construction of 14 rooms of one storey office complex at the council secretariat, the on-going Eteo town hall and the completed Ngofa town hall.

Other projects embarked on by the council chairman includes, the ongoing construction of Obo Nwank road, the ultra modern Eleme market, procurement of mobile health van, donation of Hilux Police patrol van, 10 motor cabs for internal transport scheme and brand new commuter buses for Eleme Council of chiefs, the legislative, NULGE, Eleme chapter and provision of portable water.

At the National award Nite/Dinner held in Abuja and organised by House of Representatives, Committee on States and Local Government, the chairman of the committee, Hon. Adedeji O. Emmanuel, reminded guests that the award is a performance award to local government chairmen who have distinguished themselves with remarkable track record of achievement, distinct leadership qualities as well as innovations and creativity in the management of their local government area.

Hon. Adedeji further noted that the award was instituted to accelerate the socio economic growth and development of the grassroots explaining that the assessment of the nominees was based on performance and the criteria of creativity, dedication, initiative, responsive leadership qualities, integrity, management of resources and general development impact in the area of road construction.
