Arsenal Go For Consolidation At Olympiacos …Euro Champions League
English Premiership Side, Arsenal will today be on a formality match as they play guest to Olympiacos in today’s Group H tie.
The Arsene Wenger-led side have already qualified for the last 16 stage, whereas their host needs a point at least to make the next stage behind Arsenal.
Meanwhile, in the other Group H game, Belgium Champions, Standard Liege are also not totoally out of the last 16 stage. As they gear up to welcome AZ Alkmaar, a win for them and a defeat for Olympiacos would mean that the Latzlo Boloni’s men would go through on head-to-head record.
In Group F, already qualified Fiorentina will be targeting at least a point at Liverpool, while hoping that Lyon would fail to inflict a heavy setback on Debrecan as they attempt to cement pole position.
For Group F, all four teams can graduate, with Barcelona in the strongest position ahead of their journey to face Dynamo Kiev.
Barca can even afford to lose by one goal and still go through, while an eventual winner in the contest between Inter Milan and Robin Karzan would also be guaranteed a spot in the last 16.
Should Dynamo Kiev fail to get the better of Barca, Inter could also advance courtesy of a 0-0 or 1-1 stalemate, though any other drawn out come would seal their exit.
The situation is more straightforward in Group G, where Romanina hopefuls Unirea Urziceni have been defying expectations and will clinch the runners-up place behind Sevilla if they can achieve a positive result away against Stuttgart.
The Bundesliga side can settle for nothing less than maximum points, on the other hand, in what will be Swiss coach Christian Gross’s first match in charge since the dismissal of Markus Babbel at the weekend.
