Rivers State Governor Rt. Hon. Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi said the present government would continue to support Christian Pilgrims to embark on holy pilgrimage to the Holy land in fulfillment of his promise to show gratitude to God for answering prayers to make him governor.

Governor Amaechi gave the assurance, Friday, when the federal government delegation on the 2009 Christian Pilgrimage to Israel led by Mr Tunde Akogun paid him a courtesy visit at Government House, Port Harcourt.

The governor, who recalled the divine intervention in his quest for the governorship of the state, said God did not make him governor because he was the best candidate but to prove to those that felt they were too powerful that He is God.

He thanked the delegation for the visit and promised to continue to sponsor pilgrims to the holy land as a way of evangelizing His word.

Earlier, the leader of the delegation Mr Tunde Akogun, said they were in Port Harcourt in continuation of their assessment of centres for the airlift of Christian Pilgrims to the holy land.

Mr Akogun, who is also the leader of the House of Representatives, said they were impressed with the smooth and timely airlift of pilgrims from the state and lauded the governor for making Rivers State playa leading role in sponsorship of pilgrims.

While addressing intending pilgrims at the Port Harcourt International Airport, Omagwa, later Mr Akogun charged the pilgrims to be good ambassadors of the country and concentrate on the spiritual essence of the journey.

He charged them to be their brothers’ keeper while in the holy land and avoid acts capable of undermining the image of Rivers State and Nigeria as well as pray for the nation and its leaders.
