Sylva Sacks Bayelsa LG Councils
Bayelsa State Governor, Chief Timipre Sylva has ordered the dissolution of the remaining seven local government councils’ caretaker committees of the state
Brass Local Government Council caretaker committee was two weeks ago sacked by the state House of Assembly on allegations bothering on maladministration, misappropriation of funds and high handedness.
But the chairman of the council, Mrs Hellen Bob faulted the decision of the House, saying that she was being haunted because of her disagreement with a lawmaker over the use of council vehices, which the lawmakers representing the council decided to monopolize.
No reason was however stated for the latest government action but a source said it was to inject more loyal and committed party members in preparation for next year’s election.
A government statement directed the sacked chairmen to hand over all government property in their possession to the head of personnel department (HPM) in their councils and thanked them for their services to the state.
The statement, however, said that the dissolution became imperative to pave way for the proposed council polls next year even though, it was understood that new set of people would soon be appointed to man the councils.
Commenting on the development, the Commissioner for Local Government and Rural Development, Mr Waipramowei Dudefa said even though the out gone chairmen were all women, they have distinguished themselves in serving their respective areas.
