Possession Of Fire Arms: Court Clears Gov’s Ex-Aide

Justice Olayinka Fayi of Federal High Court, Yenagoa has struck out a case of illegal possession of firearms preferred against the Famous Daunemigha, a former special aide to Governor Sylva.

The court took the step sequel to the withdrawal of the charges leveled against the accused by the prosecution counsel, ASP Henry Ogbeiwi.

In withdrawing the charges, the prosecution counsel told the court that the case has been transferred to the Force Headquarters Abuja for further investigation.

Based on the submission, Justice Faji said he has no option than to strike out the case.  It could be recalled that the accused Daunenigha on June 10, his year was arraigned before a Federal High Court sitting in Yenagoa for an alleged illegal possession of fire arms, a charge in which he pleaded not guilty.

The Charge No. FHC/YNG/16C/2009 reads in parts: “You Famous Daunemigha on the 6th Day June 20, 2009 at No. 42 Bay Bridge Road, Kpamsia had in your possession two pump action gums reasonably suspected of having been stolen or unlawfully obtained and thereby committed an offence punishable by law.
