Police Rescue Woman, 80, From Kidnappers

Police in Enugu last weekend rescued an octogenarian, Cecilia Nwobodo, from kidnappers.
Luck ran out of the four-man gang of kidnappers when men of the Enugu State Police Command, who acted on a tip off, stormed the kidnappers’ hideout where they rounded them up.
The kidnappers were negotiating for ransom when the police struck.
The names of the suspects, who were brought to headquarters of the police command alongside their victim, were withheld by the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Ebere Amara-Izu.
Amara-Izu explained that the release of their names could jeopardise further investigation. It was gathered that the kidnappers had already been paid N300,000 out of the N2 million they were demanding before the operatives came into the matter and employed some deft moves that led to the arrest of the kidnappers.
A reliable source said: “It does appear that the crime was masterminded by the grandson of the woman, who is now on the run.”
The arrest of the suspects makes the second of such in the past two months.
