NGO Concludes Project To Raise Education Standard
A non-governmental organisation (NGO) labeled Developmental Heritage Association (DHA) has concluded the first phase of its scholarship and councselling project, aimed at raising the standard of educatin in Okrika Communities.
President of the group, Mr. Need Tamuno told The Tide shortly after donating books and counseling pupils from about five primary schools in the area at Okrika that children from the community need scholarships towards future career.
The DHA President explained that society would not grow if education is left only in the hands of teachers, adding that all hands must be on deck.
The programme which took the body to about 10 different communities in Okrika and Ogu/Bolo Local Government Areas, according to Mr. Tamuno would foster unity amongst the Kirikebesi communities and beyond.
Mr. Tamuno also called on the pupils shortly after conducting a school quiz competition to take their studies seriously and eshew from social vices.
He also stressed the need for good family values by the school children, especially calling on them to obey their parents by doing their domestic chores.
In a similar vein, Programme Officer of DHA, Engr. Thompson Wakama disclosed that the body is not government sponsored, but is the sole effort of concerned indigenes, who felt the need to raise quality of education in the area.
Engr. Wakama advised the pupils to be studious and choose good career paths capable of making them good citizens in the future.
Commending the body for the gesture, Mrs. Nonju Susannal, of Girls School Okrika prayed God to sustain them while urging them to continue the good work.
About three pupils emerged tops from the quiz competitions. The final phase would be conducted amongst selected public Junior Secondary Schools in Ogu/Bolo area.
