NFF Threaten’s To Dump Glo, AIT
Tomorrow’s meeting of the Executive committee of the Nigeria Football Federation will decide whether or not to continue their partnership with Glo and AIT, after both companies failed to meet their financial obligations to the Glass House.
Glo have an annual N150 million (about US$1 million) deal to sponsor all the national teams, while AIT have a four-year, N250 million broadcast rights deal with the NFF.
But according to Adama Idris, Head of the NFF’s Marketing Department, both companies had defaulted on their payments for almost a year and the NFF have lost patience.
“The NFF board will meet on Tuesday to decide on the sponsorship fate of Globacom and AIT as the two companies have deliberately refused to pay their annual rights fee for the past one year.
“The actions of these two companies have put the Federation in very bad financial position since the beginning of 2009,”Adama told Tidesports’ source..
Globacom’s payment was due in January, while AIT are nearly six months behind in their payment, and Adama says the Glass House have exhausted all avenues to get both companies to pay.
“The NFF have exhausted all contractual provisions in the contract with both organisations and is set to take a final decision on Tuesday,” he said.
Globacom’s current deal with the NFF lapses on December 8 and Adama insists that the possibility of renewal is slim.
“We are fully prepared to prosecute our participation in Angola and South Africa, without Partners who did not support us to succeed.
“The strategy of indigenous companies acquiring the properties of the Nigerian Football on an exclusive basis without servicing those rights when due, is bad business practice and highly impacts negatively on football development in Nigeria.”
