The Niger Delta Youth Council (NDYC) has condemned in strong terms the action of ex-militants in Choba on Monday and described it as betrayal of trust.
The president of NDYC, Chief Mike Amakiri who spoke through his vice Comrade Chinwendu Isaac Orduwa Wednesday in Port Harcourt said that the ex-militants have by this action tempered with the trust bestowed on them by the President Yar’Adua-led government.
Chief Amakiri pointed out that the “Boys” should not have registered their grievances by molesting defenceless members of the public ad taking laws into their hands.
He stated it was time the boys should see violence as an old fashion or conflict resolution, and learn to use dialogue to settle issues.
“Violence should be viewed as an old fashion to make peace. If you are in disagreement with anybody the best way to solve the problem is dialogue, I so much believe in it”, he said.
The Niger Delta Youth leader, expressed support for calls on the Federal Government and other concerned agencies to relocate the ex-militants to non-residential area either Eleme/Akajo road or along Port Harcourt Airport road in Ikwerre Local Government in order to avoid the repetition of the last incident.
He urged the Federal Government to strive to meet their obligations to the ex-militants by paying their allowances promptly to avoid recurrence of the incident.
He said it was disheartening that the boys were abandoned by the Federal Government despite an agreement on payment of the allowances noting that such situation is capable of causing crisis.
