A football match between Nigeria Association of Women Journalists (NAWOJ) and FIDA scheduled to mark the 20th Anniversary of NAWOJ in Abuja was disrupted by a heavy downpour, forcing the competition to end a goalless draw.

The match, which started with much zeal on the part of NAWOJ could not continue after about 15 minutes of play due to the heavy rain.

Addressing the fans at the Abuja national stadium, the National President of NAWOJ, Fatimah Abdulkareem said the match could not continue in order not to destroy the hairs of NAWOJIANS that have been made in preparation for the Gala/Award night.

Speaking in a chat with Tidesports, the player that represented Rivers State, Lydia Manjor said the NAWOJ team would have won the competition if not for the rain”.

She contained that “NAWOJ players were ready to celebrate the anniversary in a grand style after winning the FIDA team.

“NAWOJ team is stronger than the FIDA team. The match would have continued, but for our hair which was made and reserved for the Gala/Award nite”, she said.

Manjor commended the organisers of the football match, saying that “sports helps to keep people healthy and also serves as anti-stress pill”.
