Martins To Undergo Surgery
Nigeria’s forward, Obefemi Martins, is to undergo surgery in the coming days for a shin problem.
Early reports say the forward, whose two goals helped secure a 3-2 win for Nigeria and took them to World Cup qualification, will be out for at least a month.
That would put his African Nations Cup chances in doubt and significantly weaken Nigeria’s offense, especially with fellow striker Ike Uche out with a long anterior cruciate ligament injury.
However, sources close to the player say he is determined to fight his way back to full fitness in time for the African showpiece in Angola in January.
The Wolfsburg striker is the third major injury worry for Nigeria coach, Shaibu Amodu, following Real Zaragoza’s Uche and Hull City midfielder Seyi Olofinjana, who is also out for at least a month.
