How Qualification Left Eagles Speechless
Nigerian defender, Joseph Yobo, has spoken about how qualification for next year’s World Cup left the players speechless in the dressing room afterwards.
The Super Eagles eked out an enthralling, sometimes heart-pumping 3-2 win over Kenya to seal a place at next year’s big dance in South Africa and Yobo says the atmosphere in the dressing room was electric.
“The atmosphere in the changing room after the match was great.”
“It was probably the best I have seen with my national team because it was really hard for us to go through.
“We didn’t really know what to say to each other because we were all a bit shocked at first,” he added.
After the initial shock, the Everton defender, now says it is all starting to hit home, and he and his mates are looking forward to a good showing in South Africa.
“It’s been a couple of days though now, so it’s started to sink in just what we’ve achieved and we can now look forward to the World Cup.”
Yobo played at the 2002 World Cup, but then suffered the agony of missing out on the 2006 edition, and he says he is delighted.
“I am thrilled because I played at the World Cup in 2002 but then missed out in 2006 so this is another opportunity for me and I am delighted,” he said. “I am really looking forward to next summer.”
