Hos Stresses Dev Of Reading Culture In Students
Alumni Associations in the country have been called upon to educate students on the need to develop reading culture to enable them excel in their studies.
The Rivers State Head of Service (HOS), Mrs. Esther Anucha made the call when the executive members of the Ahmadu Bello University Zaria, Rivers State Chapter paid her a courtesy visit in her office in Port Harcourt.
Mrs. Anucha who attributed the low standard of education in the country to the unhealthy habit formed by students who spend most of their time watching video films and unwholesome peer group activities, urged the Alumni Association to carry out a programme to sensitize students on the need to develop a reading culture.
She lauded the association for their numerous contributions to the development of their alma mater and promised to identify with them at all times.
Earlier in her speech, the Chairperson of the Ahmadu Bello University Zaria, Rivers State chapter, Dr. Jessica Ezekiel-Hart said they were in her office to intimate her of the forthcoming fund raising ceremony organized by the Association to support University education in Nigeria with special focus on infrastructure development of the Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria.
She used the visit to formally congratulate her on her appointment as the first female Head of Service in the State and solicited her support in the provision of necessary logistics for the success of the fund raising ceremony which according to her would also feature a Public Lecture and the Presentation of Awards to some distinguished Alumni of the Ahmadu Bello University Zaria, among whom is the Head of Service.
