Group Demands Compensation For Humiliated Rivers Factory Worker
An organization known as the Progressive Youth Link Association of Rivers State, (PYLARS) had urge a probe into what they describe as ‘Anty labour practice exhibited by new China Rubber, Plastic footwear industry operating in Trans Amadi Port Harcourt .
The groups reaction followed the physical humiliation a Rivers indigene and staff of the company, Mr. Tamuno-emi Ngalo, by his Chinese boss, Mr. Hooh.
Mr. Tamuno-emi was reportedly beating to pulp and physically tortured by his boss Mr. Hooh on the 12th of October, 2009 at the company premises.
President of the Association, Mr. Saro Kuneh in a press statement describe the increase in anti-labour practice among most foreign based companies operating in Port Harcour. While condemning the act, the body demand a thorough investigation into the activities of the companies and adequate compensation for the victim.
The body further called on the public compliant committee of the their State House of Assembly to critically examine the activities of the new China Rubber among other Chinese firm operating in the state.
The General Manager of the company Mr. Shon Zhi Xiong confirmed the incident , Mr. Xiong said management is looking into the matter, it could be recalled that management and staff of the company had been at loggerhead over the absence of job security in the company, investigation reveal that new China company is like a huge slave yard where young Nigerians are hired and fired at will without any condition of service.
