FG Procures Textbooks For Schools

In its effort to boost education in Nigeria, the Federal Government has purchased about 8,500,000 text books for junior, primary and secondary schools worth N4.2 billion for free distribution to schools in the country.
This was stated by the First Lady Hajia Turai Yar’Adua while officially flagging-off the national distribution of the books to the pupils who represented the six geo-political zones that came from Oyo, Bauchi, Kaduna, Niger, Anambra and Akwa-Ibom states.
According to him the books will be distribute equally to all states in-line with Federal Government guidelines on basic education.
The purchase of the books followed the approval of the Federal Executive Council last year during which it was agreed that the balance of funds for school feeding programme under the Universal Basic Education (UBE) programme should be used for the procurement of instructional materials as part of Federal Government’s intervention in Basic Education to enhance education in the country, she said. The First Lady, states that this will be the first time the education sector is witnessing such a massive injunction of textbooks into primary and secondary schools, adding that the books comprised English Language and Mathematics for primary Four, Science and library books for pupils to read.
“Textbooks in learning is the most important to improve the knowledge of the children.”
She used the forum to call on state governors and local government chairmen to consider a budgetary allocation for education and ensure that all pupils receive textbooks and thanked the Federal Ministry of Education for the noble achievement.
