Ebonyi Courts Disposes 550 Criminal Cases

The Ebonyi State Ministry of Justice disposed 550 criminal cases out of the 1,152 cases brought before it during the 2008-2009 legal year. Chief Jossy Eze, Attorney General And commissioner for justice, disclosed this on in Abakaliki in an event to mark the beginning of the 2009-2010 legal year. Eze said that the ministry treated 230 criminal cases, while 44 cases were recorded as civil matters, 12 were disposed off and 32 pending. The Attorney-General of said the ministry facilitated the operations of the law Review Committee and sponsored a bill law by the house of Assembly “The revised laws in six volumes were presented to the governor, who released N30 million to the committee for the honorarian and publication works,” he said.

Justice Alloy Nwankwo, the Chief Judge of the state, said that the revenue generated during the past legal year was N9.2 million. “The total amount generated by the High and magistrate courts was N8.4 million while the customary courts generated N841,000 and thanked the government for supporting the judiciary and promised to maintain the harmonious relationship with other arms of government.
