Council Boss Urges Support For Enugu Govt
The people of Enugu state have been called upon to redouble their efforts in supporting the present administration in the state led by governor Sullivan I. Chime.
Making the call in a chat with newsmen in Enugu shortly after the screening of local government council aspirants in the state by the Enugu State Independent Electoral Commission [ENSIEC], the current chairman of Isi-Uzo local government council, DR. Sam Ugwu, explained that the call became necessary because from all indications, governor Chime had come to save and serve the people.
Governor Chime, he further said, has performed beyond the expectations of the people and should therefore be supported by all and sundry to encourage him to do more.
According to him, the facelift given to Enugu state by governor Chime is unprecedented in the history of the state, describing the Chime administration as people oriented that should be fully supported not only by the good people of Enugu ,but all residents of the state.
On what would be his priority if voted the second time to continue as chairman of Isi-Uzo local government council of Enugu state in December this year, Dr. Ugwu further said: “If I am re-elected, my priority will be to continue to serve the people of Isi-Uzo local government like I am doing now. We are also going to focus more on the issue of rural electrification and roads, as well as equipping the existing health institutions in the local government. We shall also get into human development more than we have done in the past, he stressed.
While commenting on his major achievements, Dr. Ugwu fingered peace as his major achievement in office, adding that “You cannot quantify the cost of peace. If you follow the issue of political development in Isi-Uzo for the past ten years, there has been serious political crisis in the local government.”
He revealed that each time election was held in the past, the local government had experienced one political crisis or the other, expressing satisfaction that his
administration had been able to bring all the stakeholders together, and “we are happy for that.”
In the same vein, Dr. Ugwu further expressed joy that his administration has equally been able to make the people of the area feel the impact of governance.
Continuing, Dr. Ugwu said: “The joint partnership with the state government on the construction of Ugwogo Nike-Neke -Ikem roads is going to be given a serious facelift .It is through the joint partnership that the road contract has been recently awarded. By this November, the contractors are going to commence work on these roads”, he promised.
Fielding questions from reporters on reasons why he was returned unopposed by the people of the area, Dr. Ugwu quickly reacted: “May be my people think I have done well and that is why they returned me to continue to serve them if I win the forthcoming local government election in the state come December this year.”
His words: “My people are already feeling the impact of governance and they are happy. I thank them for their support for my administration, and I use this medium to urge them not to relent, not only in supporting the council, but the state government led by governor Chime, as the importance of their support cannot be overemphasized.
Commenting on the screening exercise, Dr. Ugwu gave ENSIEC pass mark, adding that the exercise was smoothly and objectively carried out.
