Nigerians and industrial operators have faulted NAFDAC’s approval of CHI “secure” water as action taken in contravention of the law and global practice of storing drinking table water in a transparent container for an early and easy detection of any possible impurity or contaminant in the water.

Informed consumers have continued to intensify call on the nation’s food and drugs regulatory agency to immediately order a revocation of CHI “secure” table water package in a tetra- pack paper container.

The Tide peoples poll conducted revealed that the controversial water is still being displayed for sale in many supermarkets and stores across the country.

Our finding reveals that NAFDAC may not have prevailed on the management of CHI Nigeria Limited, the producer of the table water, inspite of, pressure mounted by the general public on the agency to withdraw the product from circulation and repackage it in a transparent container as being demanded by concerned citizens which is also in line with he nation’s law on standard drinking water packaging.

The controversial paper pack table water according to our source was approved under the former Director- General of the Agency, Professor Dora Akunyili in spite of public outcry on the danger of the table water.

It is not clear, why NAFDAC has allowed this violation of the nation’s law and gross abnormally to subsist despite growing consumer outrage and call for a revocation of the tetra package water.

The Tide markets survey indicate that some retail shops and supermarket across the country, most especially in Lagos metropolis are still displaying the table water for sales.

Our correspondent’s efforts to reach the Head, public Relations, NAFDAC, Mrs. Christy Obiazikor, for confirmation on why the agency kept deaf ear on the public outcry for the revocation of the tetra paper packaging water, was abortive as her contact phone was not responding.
