Community Protests Planned Relocation Of School

The people of Teyork community in the Khana Local Government Area have petitioned the Rivers State Government over the alleged move to merge the state school I Teyork with a primary school in Gbor a neighbouring community.

A cross section of indigenes of the community who spoke to newsmen in Port Harcourt said that the proposed merger of the school with that of Gbor will deny the community access to education.

They also said that the situation shows that some highly placed persons in the neighbouring community are bent on marginalizing the community in the scheme of things, warning that the situation is capable of reigniting crisis in the area.

In his speech, the speaker of the Royal Friends of Teyork, Comrade Sampson Nsagha said that it is unfair for state school I Teyork to be relocated to another community as the school is one of the oldest in Khana local government area.

Mr. Nsagha said that the situation will have negative impact on the educational development of the community.

Also speaking, Mr. Francis Namadan an indigene of  Teyork said that instead of relocating States school I Teyork, other schools should be merge with it.

He urged those behind the move to reconsider their stand to save the area from further bloodshed.
