Community Protests Non-Inclusion In Facility Tour
Umuebulu Community in Etche Local Government Area has lamented non-inclusion of its representative in the Governor Amaechi recent Gas Plant facility tour of its Gas Plant.
Rising from a meeting of the indigenes of the Area, the Community Development Committee (CDC) Chairman Mr. Dan Njoku while thanking the Governor of the State Rt. Hon Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi for the tour expressed surprise in the non inclusion of a representative of Umuebulu Community in the tour since according to him, the Gas Plant is hosted by Umuebulu Community.
Also speaking, the youth leader of the community Mr. Godwin Njoku while commending the Governor for the recent facility tour called on him to compel Shell to look into the problems affecting host communities stating that since Afam Station in Oyigbo LGA and Umuebulu in Etche LGA have different Gas Plants, there should be equal representation in the two host communities.
In his own remark, the traditional ruler and Ochimba of Umuebulu Etche Eze Sunday Njoku recalled that smile 1952 when Shell started it exploration activities, the Community has maintained its friendly disposition with Shell and call on authorities concerned to make all necessary consultation before taking a stand on issues concerning oil producing communities as traditional rulers rules ought not be relegated to the back ground.
In his closing remarks, the president of Etche American Foundation Dallas chapter comrade Emmanuel Njoku who sent his greetings on behalf of Rivers State indigenes resident in Dallas America thanked the Rivers State Governor for his giant strides and advised him not to be distracted by the intrigues of some politicians.
