Commissioner Lauds NIPR

The Nigerian Institute of Public Relations has been applauded for the giant strides recorded in the practice of public relations in Nigeria.

The Commissioner for Energy and Natural Resources, Dr. Dawari George, made the commendation when the body paid him a courtesy visit in his office recently.

Dr. George reiterated the importance of the institute in the planning, packaging and dissemination of events aimed at creating mutual understanding between an organization and its publics.

He called on government to co-opt professional bodies such as NIPR into the planning and packaging of government programmes to create a better awareness and acceptance.

The Commissioner used the occasion to indicate the willingness of his Ministry to partner with NIPR towards the packaging and dissemination of the ministry’s activities in order to attract more investors.

The Chairman of NIPR, Mr. Karibi George in his opening address, intimated the Commissioner of the readiness of the body to partner with the Ministry of Energy. He said NIPR was not only efficient in creating mutual understanding between an organization and its publics but, could also be used as veritable tool for mass mobilization geared towards better understanding and acceptance of government policies and programmes.

Mr. Karibi commended Governor, Rotimi Amaechi for the appreciable level of developments achieved so far and prayed for better days between NIPR and the state government.

Meanwhile, the Commissioner of Lands and Survey, Mr. Ezemonye Ezekiel-Amadi has commended the Consultant handling the Rivers State geographic Information System (RIVGIS) project, for the progress they have made.

The Commissioner made the remark recently while reviewing a demonstration of the already captured data by the consultant handling the project.

Mr. Ezekiel-Amadi highlighted the need to involve indigenes of the state in the RIVGIS project team and urged the consultant to maintain his pace to achieve the targeted deadline.

Responding the Consultant handling the RIVGIS project, Mr. Tamunomiebaka Iyalla said he was in the Ministry to demonstrate the already accomplished jobs which include file capturing, conversion of survey data, capturing information on property history cards, capturing information on land instruments according to volumes as well as the electronic payment system.

According to Mr. Iyalla, who is also the Managing Director, Megatech Earth Digital Systems limited, the essence of the RIVGIS project is to reduce the stress associated with the issuance of title documents in the state and also to allow for easy access to information on landed property through the internet system.

Earlier, the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry, Christopher Briggs, on behalf of the staff thanked the Consultant for a job well done and urged that necessary corrections be effected prior to further presentation.
