Amaechi, Orji Receive Ikwechegh’s Remains

Governor Rotimi Amaechi of Rivers State and his Abia State counterpart, Chief T.A, Orji, Wednesday, received the remains of a former Military Governor of Old Imo State, the Late Commodore Amadi Guy Ikwecheghe.
They received the remains, brought home from London where he died, at the Airforce Base in Port Harcourt, Rivers State where it was officially handed over to the Abia State government.
Abia State Deputy Governor, Comrade Chris Akomas and his Rivers State counterpart, Mr. Tele Ikuru, received the remains on behalf of the governors of the two states.
Others on hand to receive the remains were top government officials, Naval Officers as well as traditional rulers and personalities from the Igbere clan in Bende local government area of Abia State, country home of late Ikwecheghe.
The Late Statesman was accorded final Military honour by a detachment of men of the Nigerian Navy before he was conveyed to the mortuary.
In his brief remarks, Akomas described the Late top Naval officer as a great Statesman of repute, integrity and an illustrious son of Abia, Igbo land, and country who led a life worthy of emulation.
Akomas noted that the late Ikwecheghe was not only a great motivator, but an adviser who encouraged and ensured that his life impacted positively on his family, state and nation at large and urged the family to uphold his sterling qualities.
Similarly, Ikuru described death as very painful no matter the age or time it occurs and urged the bereaved family to be consoled by their belief and hope in God who is the author of life and death, and prayed God to grant them the fortitude to bear the irreparable loss.
The late Commodore Amadi Guy Ikwecheghe (OFR) who died on Wednesday 11, November in a London Hospital was the former Military Governor of old Imo State from 1986-1990.
